Different Contradicting Beauty. For the underlying darkness allows the light to shine, and the light shines on the beauty of the darkness. These two opposing forces compliment each other, giving a clear and magnificent perspective, allowing for an open-minded and open-hearted view.

The design is based on Southampton, its history and its most recognisable landmarks. The title ‘Sotonian’ is what you call someone from Southampton.

By Andre Miripolsky

I took a monochromatic approach to my elephant using calking material presses from a tube to make a repetitive pattern of 3-D ‘candy kisses’ like application. Twenty-seven tubes of calking material were used to totally cover the elephant. The effort created another outline to the predefined, smooth line of the sculpture, giving it a spikey, hair-like look that harkened back to punk music days of the 1980s - hence its name, its Punkaphant.

16. Happy Sun

By Panu Kritaramruang

Happy Sun is inspired by Chinese and Tibetan costumes. A chuba is a sheepskin coat made of thick Tibetan wool worn by many nomadic people of high altitude in the mountains of Tibet. Two cultures differ on beliefs and faith, which they have inherited from the same ancestor. The yellow color shines bright like the sun. Dragons, clouds, peonies, and pearls come from ancient beliefs and signify the spirit that strives for wisdom. The symbolism brings on auspicious meaning to those who own and wear these robes. Elephants are also sacred animals. The elephant and dragon bring luck to the possessor.

23. Stookolifant

23. Stookolifant

By Bert Lezy

Stookolifant is an untranslatable neologism. It is the combination of the Dutch words “stookolie” (petrol) and “olifant” (elephant). It puts some serious questions in a humoristic way about humanity’s deadly addiction to the poisonous drug petroleum.
