Omelet on rice with fried crispy basil leaves and minced pork meat

Meat, rice, local herbs, and egg. Add to that local spices and flavors and you will get a composition of Western and Thai aromas. Although it is relatively hot, this dish has something intriguing.

Omelet on rice with fried crispy basil leaves and minced pork meat is a meal plenty of carbs and proteins. At the same time, it is not so heavy and not so difficult to be digested. Maybe that is thanks to all these spices and herbs, or maybe that is because the meal is prepared just with little oil. Of course, the pork meat is not so lean, but still pork parts are rather deprived of all extra visible fatty elements.

Fried egg that is on top of the rice serving also is not indulged in the oil. The same applies to the crispy basil, that although is deep fried, is not full of oil.

Why should you try Omelet on rice with fried crispy basil leaves and minced pork meat?

There is a couple of reasons to do so. First of all, it is a local dish that includes a lot of international notes. Secondly, it is rich in nutritional values. Thirdly, it is prepared with some traditional Thai spices and herbs like basil leaves and chili. Finally, this dish will let you try something special and at the same time something relatively safe for your stomach. Here, I mean you will not get anything inedible, anything really strange or weird.

Omelet on rice

Once again, when you hear it, this composition is not something very interesting. For many of us it sounds strangely, but it is popular here in Thailand. If I had to describe it in simple words, I would say that it is a scrambled egg put on the rice serving. Well, although sounds ridiculously, it is nice. It looks good, tastes good and allows you to make with it whatever you want.

Deep fried crispy basil leaves

What is that? To describe it in the simplest and easiest way, it is Thai basil fried in the way, that it becomes crispy and has a form that is a little bit similar to potato chips. However, it is much more delicate than chips, it is not so much fatty, it is thinner, and is spicier.

Basil leaves have a beautiful and intensive color, are slightly salty and have delicate chili notes. Apart from that, they nicely underline the pork flavor, and they pair very well with the bland sticky rice.

Minced pork meat

Finally comes one of the most important ingredients – pork. The meat is relatively lean, but at the same time it is juicy and soft.

It is fried with chilis and with some garlic. Thanks to them, the pork meat gets extra aromas. Even though you cannot easily spot both spices, they are distinguishable from the first bite. What is more, I would even say that this dish is relatively hot, but the plain rice that is served aside is a nice contra balance that lowers the general spiciness.

Finally, do not forget to try another great dish with an omelet - Omelet on rice with fried pork and garlic served with chilis in a fish sauce, that is not so spicy but has a wonderful garlic aroma!
